About the Organization

Inspired by constitutional values of justice,liberty, fraternity, and human dignity, FEVOURD-K was started in 1982 by Civil Society stalwarts engaged in collaborative work with the state to advance human freedoms and ensure rightful access to developmental opportunities for deprived communities. Headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, FEVOURD-K is a membership alliance of over 800 organizations working to advance civic engagement in shaping socially just, environmentally sustainable and economically equitable policies and programs in the state.

The members of  FEVOURD-K are registered organizations and civil society coalitions involved in diverse range of social, economic and environmental issues and belong to a wide range of sizes and socio-cultural orientation.

WHY FEVOURD-K?

FEVOURD-K is a federation of over 800 voluntary organizations committed to strengthening the developmental indices in Karnataka through social, economic and cultural empowerment of deprived communities, environmental conservation and the promotion of a vibrant democracy in the state.  
 

A robust voluntary sector – independent of governments, bureaucracy, and private corporations - is necessary for sustainable development and for democracy to thrive. With its roots in the Indian independence movement, the voluntary sector in the country has been playing a key role in protecting human rights and advancing human progress. They have also been a source of constant innovation and action, promoting social justice, improving community leadership, strengthening participatory democracy, reaching services to the undeserved, reversing inequality, and protecting the environment.

The Voluntary sector in India encompasses a broad range of organizations – formally registered  NGOs, and community based organizations, to informal groups and associations - that are involved in supporting deprived and disadvantaged communities achieve their social, economic, and developmental aspirations by organizing themselves according to the fundamental right to association n the Indian Constitution. FEVOURD-K is committed to improving the quality and reach of such voluntary organizations through shared learning, strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and advocacy for improved space and legitimacy for voluntary sector work in Karnataka.
